Flanagans

Its rustic furniture is from a small village in County Cork, the green-jerseyed staff are mostly Irish natives, and although it's clearly playing on a certain cliché preeminent not only in Austria but also in other parts of the world, you cannot get more Ireland in Vienna than at Flanagans'. A big menu is sporting different beers and spirits as well as hearty food at very affordable prices, and when this pub pulls together for events such as St. Patrick's Day or the Rugby World Cup, there ain't a jollier - and louder - place about.
(Note: the pub is divided into a smoking and non-smoking section!)

Rudolf Ölz

"Baking - how it used to be." This is how the little independent bakery at one of the busier corners of Landstrasse likes to introduce itself, referring to the time as well as the quality of ingredients and baking itself which all go into the bread. The café/restaurant (also part of the bakery) are separated from the baking room by a glass window which allows curious visitors to observe the diligent bakers' and their apprentices' every move.

Oberlaa

What differentiates some cakes from others? There would probably be many ways and words to define industry standards, set up criteria and analyse accordingly - the Oberlaa however simply choses to let its work speak for itself. With a commitment to freshness and a superbly trained staff (for both bakery and service), customers are in for a treat and looking at the wide range of delicious cakes, chocolates, and biscuits will make anybody's stay at one of this confectioner's branches a pleasant experience.
(Note: the Oberlaa also makes individualised cakes on demand, for e.g. birthdays, holidays, weddings)

Sperl

Vienna is for many the birth place of coffee houses and although finding one that sets itself above the rest may seem difficult at first, the Sperl manages to tick all the boxes. Whilst fulfilling established criteria such as having a wide range of coffee drinks, stacks of newspapers and magazines, and freshly made pastries on offer, it also manages to convince with friendly service, a genuinely nice atmosphere, and last but not least - a list of awards that would make Hollywood blush.
(Note: there are 3 carom billard tables on site!)

Sababa

The outside of this Middle Eastern restaurant is casual but unassuming....the food on the other hand, is undeniably great. Within short after its opening a few years back, the Sababa has become one of the most popular kebap places in town and anybody trying their crispy falafel balls, homemade chips (fries), and grilled meat either on a mixed plate or inside a pita bread with some fresh salad, will know why. Different sauces - from mild to worryingly hot - will top it all off.
(Note: menu is bi-lingual - German and English)

Foxy

Frozen yogurt is still a rare phenomenon in Vienna, which given its popularity in America - transferred to the rest of the world mainly by popular media such as TV and magazines - may be something that is soon to change. Foxy thus underscores its pioneer-like standing by offering freshly produced frozen yogurt with different toppings that indulging customers may choose to be fruity, crunchy, syrupy or indeed a mixture of all the afore-mentioned.
(Note: the shop only uses organic yogurt, and fruit are bought fresh everyday from the nearby Naschmarkt)

Konoba

An open kitchen, a variety of fresh fish on display, and a nice Mediterrean-style setting with simple wooden furniture make this Croatian restaurant a true gem. The waiters are exceptionally friendly and very competent in advising about the different choices on the menu which are special to their native country. If you are looking for a good fish restaurant in Vienna you will be hard-pressed to find a better one, let alone one as reasonably priced as the Konoba.

Witte's Schoko & Co.

Walking into this little chocolaterie next to the Naschmarkt, you cannot help but compare it to a watch shop or optician as everything is so orderly and neatly stacked with little cardboard labels describing to the curious observor what the product itself might not disclose....this is where the comparison stops. This shop offers everything from different flavours of chocolate fondues, spreads, chocolate bars with varying degrees of cocoa content and ingredients ranging from the conventional (e.g. nuts, caramel) to the more unconventional such as berries, spices, and a variety of herbs. The true highlight of the shop has to be the display cabinet with the pralines though. With maybe a hundred colourful variations, the observor is drawn to such unexpected finds as "green tea/lime", "hot orange coffee", and "violet" amongst many more, the final selection of which a shop assistant will carefully place into little bags for the happy new owner to carry home with.

Planter's Club

Palm trees, leather armchairs, dark wooden furniture and ceiling fans certainly make this cosy bar that was built in the image of a 19th century colonial club, look the part. The list of cocktails is impressive, and with a basket of homemade crisps and soft Jazz music playing in the background, nothing stands in the way of a nice and relaxed evening in an attractive setting.
(Note: menu has a separate section on various - also rare! - rum and whiskey brands; happy hour is Mon-Fri, 5-7pm)

Demmers Teehaus

This tea shop in proximity of the old city centre celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Originally founded by an Englishman, this shop sells everything from different teas to marmalades, colourful cups and tea pots (some of which in fantastically odd designs), as well as little guides and booklets on the comforting world of tea.
(Note: due to recent events - and subsequently more interest in this topic - staff are more than happy to answer questions on the origins of their teas as well as on the existing supply of tea from Japan)
